Obaagun Indigenes Mark Annual Afaigun NPemi Festival To Celebrate Eid-el-Kabir
All is now set tomorrow for the annual rallying point of all sons and daughters of Obaagun to mark the Ileya festival in grand style.
Tagged Afaigun NPemi Festival, the programme which usually come up on the second day of the annual Eid El Adah festival, apart from serving as an umbrella body of bringing all sons and daughters of the ancient town of Obaagun together to fraternise with one another.
It particularly serves as an avenue to forge a common front for the growth and development of the ancient town.
Presiding over the Afaigun N Pemi Festival is no any other person than the Olobaagun of Obaagun,Oba Jimoh Adebisi Okunade Kayode the second, who, as a king will seat and be offering royal blessings to all the sons and daughters of Obaagun who will come home from different parts of the world to mark the annual gathering.
Fashioned after the popular “Ojude Oba,” festival in Ijebu Ode, Ogun state, the Afaigun N Pemi Festival programme as a matter of fact is one of the best days, the natives and non natives of Obaagum usually look forward to with great sense of love and excitement.
Speaking with newsmen in line with the series of arrangements already put in place, the President of Obaagun Development Union, Barrister Sarafadeen Kayode Olowolagba said this year’s Afaigun N Pemi Festival promises to be the best of it’s kind by the special grace of God.
According to Olowolagba, who was visibly elated and excited while speaking with newsmen said: “I want to categorically tell you that we are set to host the world tomorrow, being the second day of Ileya to mark Afaigun N Pemi festival in Obaagun.
“We thank God for the grace and opportunity to be among the living souls that will mark the annual festival.
“Tomorrow’s annual get-together promises to be the best we have ever had since we started the programme for almost a decade now.
“One thing that usually makes me happy and fulfilled as the President of ODU is the enthusiasm and commitment of all sons and daughters of Obaagun to the program, annually.
“Majority of those who are residing in different countries of the world, particularly US, UK, and Canada, are already at Obaagun as I speak with you just to be part of the program, physically.
“For those who, for one reason or the other will not be able to come home , they will have the opportunity of watching the program live wherever they reside as it will be beamed live on the internet.
“While I thank all sons and daughters of Obaagun for their commitment and enthusiasm for the Afaigun N Pemi festival, I want to say with confidence that we are set to host the world tomorrow in Obaagun land.
“Specifically, I must commend our father and great grand father who is the paramount king of Obaagun , Oba Jimoh Adebisi Okunade, Kayode II, for donating a parcel of land valued at about 1,000,000 (one million naira ) as a star prize for the raffle draw which is up for grab by anybody that picks the star prize during a raffle draw tomorrow .
“Apart from the piece of land located in a choiced area in Obaagun land which the Obaagun personally donated, there are other prizes to be won during the show.
“Among the prizes are brand new electronic sets like Plasma Tv, fridges, motor cycles, bicycles, grinding machines, gas cookers , Ankara fabrics and edible and other non edibles items valued at several millions of naira which are up for grab by people” according to Olowolagba.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Planning Committee of the year 2023 Afaigun npemi festival, Mr Muideen Biodun Nasirudeen of Oloras compound, recalled the many success stories of the annual Afaigun npemi festival.
Mr Nasirudeen while also appreciating the love and commitment of all sons and daughters of Obaagun to the festival assured that this year’s program is with a difference.
He thanked other members of the committee under his chairmanship for the support and promised that tomorrow program looks beautiful and fantabulous with a lot to eat and drink before,during and after the festival.
Findings by newsmen further revealed that other attractive features of this year’s Afaigun N Pemi festival is medical outreach for all sons and daughters of Obaagun, dancing competition and of course the choice of who becomes this year’s Omidan Obaagun which is a beauty pageant where a winner will smile home with fantastic prizes.
Purely a socio cultural cum religious programme, the Afaigun npemi Festival is expected to attract the presence of political and non political functionaries in Osun state including the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who has been formally invited to give the needed executive coloration to the event as the number citizen of Osun state who does not hide his love and commitment for the growth and development of Obaagun.
A cross section of sons and daughters of Obaagun who are already at home from different parts of the world expressed happiness over what they met on ground for the program as put together by the executives and members of Obaagun Development Union, (O.D.U).
Earlier ,while also speaking with newsmen,the Olobaagun of Obaagun, Oba Jimoh Adebisi Okunade, Kayode II, equally expressed happiness with the series of arrangements put in place by the Sarafadeen Olowolagba led ODU for this year’s Afaigun Day celebration coming up tomorrow at noon in front of the palace of the Olobaagun .
