Why INEC Deserves Commendation – Group

A coalition of Civil Society groups have said the Independent National Electoral commission declaration of the election inconclusive and the subsequent conclusion of the poll was in order and to a large extent helped doused political tension and predicted violence in the state.

The accredited domestic observer groups who noted that such declaration was not new in Nigeria political experience said, rather than lamenting, political parties should accept and appreciate the commission.

According to the team leader, Victor Kalu, it would be sad if anyone could called for the sack of the commission chairman, Prof.  Mahmoud Yakub or the Resident Electoral commissioner at this critical moment ahead of the 2019 elections, saying such people are enemies of the country.

“It’s unfortunate that reputable individuals who understand the workings of the law in Nigeria including some political parties will be calling for the resignation of INEC

Kalu who spoke on the rerun elections held in the seven polling units, decried the unwarranted crowd of unauthorised individuals in around and the polling units during the just concluded rerun election in the state.

He commended the electoral umpire for holding a free, fair and credible election, the people of the state for the maturity as well the security agents for ensuring there was peace throughout the electioneering processes.

Congratulating the winner of the election he urged him to be magnanimous in victory, adding that the leader should  show a good spirit of sportsmanship as there is always another chance in democracy.
