World Cup: Super Falcons Stun Australia On Home Soil
The Super Falcons of Nigeria earned a stunning 3-2 win over co-hosts, Australia at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Thursday.
E. Van Egmond gave Australia the lead with a low drive finish on the stroke of halftime.
Uchenna Kanu brought the Super Falcons back into the game with a close-range finish following a good work from Rasheedat Ajibade just before the end of the first half.
Ohale Osinachi gave Nigeria a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute, heading in at close range.
Substitute Asisat Oshoala, who was not fit enough to start added the third goal following a miscommunication in the Matilda’s backline.
Alanna Kennedy reduced the deficit for Australia in the stoppage time to end the tie 3-2 in favour of Nigeria.
The Super Falcons are now on top of Group B with four points from two games.
Randy Waldrum-led side will battle Republic of Ireland on Monday in their last Group B match.
