English Premier League has lost out to the Italian Seria A and German Bundesliga who will get five slots each in next season’s Champions League.

This was confirmed after Borussia Dortmund defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night.

With the result, Bundesliga’s second place in UEFA’s coefficient table for this season was confirmed.

Serie A had already sealed the first spot last month.

It means Serie A and Bundesliga can no longer be overtaken by the final remaining contenders, England and France.

Two leagues will be rewarded with an extra place through the European Performance Spots, given to the two leagues with the best average performance across the three European competitions each season and comes as part of the revamp to expand the Champions League to a 36-team competition.
