Two students of Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa University, Bauchi, ATBU, and one other have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command on charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and association with an unlawful cultist society.

This was made known in a statement by the command‘s spokesman, Ahmed Wakili, on Friday.

The statement identified the suspects as Hoomvez Martins Nyelong, 27, also known as “Slim”, Daniel Audu Adamu 26, and Maigari Inuwa, 29, also known as “Mega Fashion World.”

The statement said that apart from the students, the other suspect claimed to have graduated from the University of Jos.

Their arrests followed a distress call received on February 18 from one Abubakar Shehu (pseudonym), a 45-year-old resident of Kuhu village in Durum ward, Bauchi Local Government Area.

Shehu, according to the statement, reportedly discovered the corpse of an unidentified deceased young man in a bush on the outskirts of Kuhu village.

Responding swiftly, the Patrol Team from C Division was said to have evacuated the body to the ATBU Teaching Hospital Bauchi, where a medical examination confirmed the victim’s death.

Another distress call was said to have been received at 5 pm on the same day reporting another corpse discovered in the same location.

The spokesperson said that exhibits recovered at the scene include pieces of razor blades, empty bottles of water, empty bottles of alcohol, empty sachets of water, candles, sticks with blood stains and torn short trousers.

He said no signs of physical injury or violence were observed on either body, although the eyes of the second victim were forcibly punctured upon investigation.

According to him, Investigation by the Police revealed that the suspects were members of a cult group who were behind the gruesome killing of the two deceased persons.

His words “Further investigation revealed that the first suspect (Hoomvez Martins Nyelong) was seen in the area where the first corpse was found with two others in the early hours of Sunday, 18/2/2024.

“Also, WhatsApp chats found in his mobile phone revealed that he was the one that dropped off the first corpse whose relatives appeared and identified him to be one Reheboth Joseph Deshi 32 years old of Rafin Zurfi Yelwa area Bauchi.”

“While an investigation is still ongoing, efforts have been intensified to burst their enclaves and arrest the remaining accomplice.”
