Tinubu Mourns As Former Chief Of Army Staff Is Dead

Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff, Major General Chris Alli (rtd), is dead.

Ali’s death was announced in a statement released via X (formerly Twitter) by the Nigerian Army’s spokesperson, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu.

Ali, who served as the COAS between November 1993 and August 1994, died in a military hospital in Lagos in the early hours of Sunday, November 19, after a brief illness.

Reacting to his death in in a release issued by his Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu described the passing of the former Chief of Army Staff as a painful loss, saying he served his country faithfully.

According to President Tinubu: “I condole with the Alli family and the Nigerian Army over the sad loss of the former Chief of Army Staff. He served his country with honour and retired meritoriously. May the Almighty God rest his soul and grant his family the fortitude to bear the huge void”.

General Alli, a respected officer, held several important positions in the Nigerian Army, such as Director of Military Intelligence (DMI), before serving as Chief of Army Staff from 1993 to 1994.
