Students Protest Invasion Of EFCC On Campus

Students of the Federal College of Forestry, Ibadan, Oyo State have protested the alleged invasion of the Operatives of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on their campus.
The invasion has been condemned by the South-West leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS Zone D).
NANS Zone D Public Relations Officer, Comrade Oluwadamilola Bamigboye in a statement on Wednesday, condemned the Illegal invasion, describing it as an affront to the sanctity of educational institutions.
Bamigboye said the brutal and unjustified shooting of innocent and unarmed students is a blatant violation of fundamental rights.
The statement reads: “The attention of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Zone D strongly condemns the recent and alarming incursions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) onto our campuses.
“This illicit visitation, exemplified by the recent incident at the Federal College of Forestry, Ibadan, is an affront to the sanctity of our educational institutions which is highly insensitive and despicable.
“The brutal and unjustified shooting of innocent and unarmed students is a blatant violation of their fundamental human rights and a grave affront to the sanctity of academic environments across the country,NANS Southwest Zone D affirms that we must not take this issue lightly.
“While we recognise the importance of fighting corruption and upholding the rule of law, we vehemently denounce the arbitrary and illegal incursions of EFCC operatives onto our campuses.
“Our educational institutions are meant to be safe havens for learning, research, and personal development and a haven of morality where characters are defined. The invasion of these institutions by law enforcement agencies sends a chilling message of intimidation and intrusion into spaces that should be shielded from such disruptions.
“We call upon the EFCC and all relevant authorities to respect the autonomy of our campuses and adhere to due process. Any investigation or action must be carried out within the bounds of the law and with full consideration for the rights and dignity of students and staff.
However, NANS Southwest demands that, “The EFCC provides clear justifications for their presence on campuses and provides evidence of proper authorization for their operations.
“That a Swift and decisive action should be taken to address the ugly issue.
“We hereby vehemently condemn this barbaric act and demand that the Chairman of the EFCC, without delay, produce the officers responsible for this deplorable act.
“We urge our fellow students to remain vigilant and to report any instances of illegal or intimidating activities on their campuses. NANS Southwest Zone D will continue to closely monitor the situation and take necessary actions to protect the rights and interests of our students.
“In conclusion, we emphasize that our educational institutions are places of enlightenment, not intimidation. We call upon the EFCC to work transparently and within the confines of the law. The sanctity of our campuses must be preserved, and we will not tolerate any actions that compromise the educational environment.”
