TWO siblings, Sikiru Oloyede and Habib Oloyede have been accused of threatening to kill and dethrone the Alawo of Awo, Oba Abdulrazaq Taiwo Adegboye in Egbedore local government area of the State.

The siblings were said to have conspired with a 40-year-old suspect, Mutiu Adebayo, to unlawfully invade the Alawo’s palace with intent to dethrone the monarch.

They were arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

According to the charge sheet, the accused persons armed themselves with machetes, axes, charms and other dangerous weapons and threatened to kill the monarch.

The defendants were arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on threat to life, unlawful invasion, conspiracy and breach of peace.

According to the charge sheet, the accused persons committed the offence on August 26, 2022 at about 10:00 am at Alawo’s Palace, Awo, State of Osun.

The alleged offence contravened Sections 516, 42, 86, 517, 70, and 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

But the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the allegations leveled against them.

Applying for the bail of the defendants, Defence Counsel, A.L Idris prayed the court to admit them to bail on a liberal term, noting that they are reliable citizens of the state who will not jump bail.

However, the Police prosecutor, ASP John Idoko, objected to the oral bail application by the defence counsel on the ground that the security of the community and the state at large may be in jeopardy if the defendants were admitted bail.

In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Adekanmi Adeyeba, admitted the accused persons to bail in a sum of 2m with two sureties each.

The case was adjourned till October 12, 2022, for hearing.
