Rivers Police Arrest Officers For Alleged $3000 Extortion

Some police officers in Rivers State have been arrested by the state Police Command for extorting $3000 from their unnamed victim.

This was made known by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Grace Iringe-Koko.

On Friday, a user on X (former Twitter) with the handle @harrisonbbi18 had posted that some operatives of the state police command had gone to Aba in Abia State picked an undisclosed victim and extorted the said amount of money from him.

He posted: “Police officers attached to Rivers State Police Command left Port Harcourt to Aba, Abia State, arrested a man, took him to Rivers State, Bayelsa State and entered Ughelli, Delta State.

“After paying 3,000 USD, they moved him back to Port Harcourt and dumped him.”

Although the number of the arrested officers were not disclosed, the spokesperson in a response in Port Harcourt yesterday, said the officers fingered in the allegation have been detained.

Iringe-Koko noted that investigation has been opened into the development, adding that the findings would be made public.

She said: “The police personnel have been identified and arrested while the investigation is in progress. The outcome will be made public as soon as it is concluded.”
