Provision Of Good Roads Central To My Administration – Gov Oyetola

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun has re-emphasized the commitment of his government to the provision of good roads across the state.

The Governor made this declaration on Thursday during the commissioning of Mechanically Maintained 228.5 Kilometre Rural Roads for the development and well-being of the people of the state, held at Ile-Ife.

“We are happy to be here today to make good one of the major electoral promises which is provision of good road networks”, the Governor said.

He stated further that 308 kilometre rural roads were currently being phased across the state, which was the second phase of the project implementation.

“Osun Road Access Mobilization Project, RAMP, is involved mainly in construction and adaptation of roads in due consideration to road maintenance in order to make these roads to last longer”, the Governor said.

According to the Governor, rural roads constituted about seventy five percent of the total road networks in the state.

He however expressed his displeasure over the deplorable conditions of many of the rural roads.

The Osun helmsman then commended the ORAMP for its strategy employed to provide sustainable and effective approach in addressing the challenges of rural transport management.

“Construction of well-designed roads coupled with a reliable maintenance option is the panacea to reviving transport infrastructure in the country”, he said.

Mr. Oyetola added that his state, Osun piloted the community-based road maintenance system in the country.

“It is our determination to link our rural communities with the nearest market, as an another area to boost economy and social development of our people”, he said.

This, according to him, was what his government had been doing across the state on an equitable basis.

Mr. Oyetola thereafter appealed to market men and women, farmers, timber contractors and the entire community to reciprocate government gesture to put the roads to good use by avoiding road-damaging behaviours.
