Police Chief Solicits Co-operation Of Stakeholders

By Murtala Agboola

The Divisional Police Officer of Ataoja Estate Police Station, Osogbo, Mr. Ishaku Banawi, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) has solicited the co-operation of members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in the discharge of his duties.

He made the call at the monthly meeting of PCRC held at the station recently.

Mr. Banawi emphasised the fact that the police cannot be everywhere but will rely on credible information provided by the public and reputable members such as the PCRC.

The police chief reiterated how he has been able to tackle the challenges faced by the division since he resumed at the station recently.

He discouraged people from purchasing second-hand phone which might have been stolen from their rightful owners.

“All owners of mobile phones should know the IMEI number which can be used to trace the phone whenever it is stolen” he submitted.

According to him, “I have had cause to arrest security personnel who drive facing on-coming traffic (driving one-way) which is a serious traffic offence”.

Banawi encouraged different communities to engage the services of vigilance officers to complement police efforts since police cannot be everywhere.

The DPO asked the vigilance officers to politely challenge people who commute at odd hours without infringing on their right while also urging the community leaders not to use their positions to settle scores.

It was generally agreed that crime has reduced drastically in the division including the theft of motorcycles while a notorious cultist was killed as a result of cult clash in the division.

The new District Crime Officer, (DCO), DSP Femi Ajibola was also introduced to the meeting. He equally tasked the body to co-operate with the division by providing useful information.

The PCRC chairman, High Chief, Gbadebo Adeyemo was full of gratitude to the new helmsmen in the division and pledged the support of his members.
