Oyo State Victorious In The U-19 Jide Badamosi Cricket Tournament

The Oyo State cricket team on Sunday won the first Jide Bademosi U-19 cricket tournament after beating Ogun by 78 runs in a nail-biting final played at the Liberty Stadium Cricket Oval, Ibadan.

The victorious Oyo State team was made to sweat for the top prize as it was pushed to the limit in the match that attracted a large turnout of cricket enthusiasts from Lagos, Ogun, Osun and neighbouring Ekiti.

Ogun State won the toss but elected to field first. Oyo scored an impressive 191 for the loss of 5 in 40 overs.

The star act for Team Oyo was Olaleye Elijah who scored 93 runs not out. He was effectively assisted by Vincent Adewoye 28 and Akachukwu Chima 26.
In the second innings, Team Ogun who exhibited a lot of discipline in their fielding showed initial stability in their batting but soon began to lose wickets in quick succession. They lost 4 wickets as early as the 12th over.

The introduction of captain Ajekwu Daniel stabilised play for the team. In the 22nd over, Ogun batsmen recorded 64 for 4.
At the end, Ogun scored 113 all out giving Oyo a healthy victory.
