Osun To Establish Libraries In Public Schools

The State Government of Osun has promised to establish functional libraries in all the public primary and secondary schools in the state so as to encourage and promote reading among pupils.

The Tutor-General of the state, Mr. Anthony Famoriyo made this known on Wednesday during an event organized to celebrate the Library Week in Osogbo, capital of the state.

Famoriyo who spoke on the theme, “Library and Media as catalyst for Nation Unity and Security” said the Government had made it a priority to establish well equipped libraries in other to broaden the minds of the pupils in the state.

According to him, “the State Government is very passionate about libraries and this has informed the decision to make sure that all Schools in this state are equipped with functional libraries”.

“Library is very essential tool that student needs to reach higher nowadays because they will gain and acquire a lot of knowledge from there” he added.

He noticed that schools without library are just a play ground for pupils while observing that great men in the society attained peak of their studies with help of library.

He urges every stakeholder in the education sector to cultivate an idea of establishing library in the society for the benefit of our pupils in the state.

He said, “educationanist like Prof. Wole Soyinka, Prof. Chinua Achebe, Prof. Ola Rotimi, Prof. Olukoye Ransome-kuti and others made use of their fathers’ libraries in their younger age and reached apex of their life”.

The former Principal of Saint Charles Government High School Osogbo also advised the students to cultivate reading culture in their endeavors so as to meet up with the trends of western world.

He commended the State Government of Osun under the leadership of Ogbeni Aregbesola for building libraries in the present newly constructed schools across the State.
