Osun Govt. Expresses Satisfaction Over FG’s Water Project

Government of Osun has expressed satisfaction over the ongoing water project in Ilesa.

The Special Adviser (SA) on Water Resources and Supply to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Engr. Tawakalitu Williams made this known to newsmen during an inspection tour of Ilesa recently, saying, the Kajola water intake given to Osun government by the Federal Government would boost the level of water supply across the state.

She said, “The Federal government gave Osun Kajola dam, pumps, wares and the intakes and that has necessitated the need for Osun government to borrow more money for putting such water project to an international standards.

“The State government went to Islamic Development Bank to borrow 65 Million Dollars which would be used for the treatment plants, transmission means, boaster pumping station, three overhead tanks, electrical connections and other needs,” Williams said.

According to her, the contractors handling the project had started laying of pipes which would take several millimeters and about 17 kilometers.

“Although, we have laid about 5.5 kilometers of pipes  from the boaster pumping station to tank 1 among others to tank 2 and tank 3.

“We have been doing a lot of underground test of the three tanks in order to confirm the kind of foundation we would need to embark on,” She said.

Williams assured the public of timely completion of the project for the purpose of which it was embarked upon.

The Project Cordinator, Engr Festus Omoniyi, told newsmen that the rainy season had been a challenge which the contractors were really complaining about in addition to other cirumstances surrounding the projects.

Omoniyi noted that the project would move faster by the end of October with the believe that the rain would have subsided.

He said the contractors had been paid for the project and are all expected to deliver the job soon which he believed they would finished at the appropriate period.

The project Coordinator expressed satisfaction over the level of works done so far by the contractors despite the challenges of heavy downpours which had been delaying some works.

Omoniyi commended the Federal government, state governor and the Islamic bank for releasing the necessary funds needed for the project in order to increase the amount of water supply to the public.

The places visited by newsmen during the tour include ; 132 KV power sub-station, Kajola water dam, Oke-Ayo laying of pipes, Buster Station and 2MVA power transformer sub-station all at Ilesa, Osun.
