A bill for environmental protection has scaled through second reading at the State of Osun House of Assembly.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, noted that the bill had a lot to offer, saying it was aimed at keeping the state clean.
Owoeye said that the bill would, among other functions, focus on untapped mineral resources in the state, serve as a source of revenue and bring environmental offenders to justice.
The Speaker noted that the bill would regulate the erection of masts by telecommunications operators and check illegal mushroom domestic gas plants.
In their different contributions, the lawmakers said that the bill would aid control of flood, regulate the activities of the Ministry of Environment, sanitise and guide policies on environment in the state.
They noted that the bill would also enhance standard of living of the people and urged the House to give it accelerated passage.
