Open Defecation: We’ve Given Environmental Offenders 21-Day Ultimatum – Orolu LG

In response to the earlier published news story on last week’s edition of OSUN DEFENDER newspaper, titled: “Osun School Classroom Converted To Open Defecation Spot”, the management of Orolu Local Government Council Area has disclosed that appropriate steps have been taken on the residents of the area.

In a statement signed by the Head of Water and Environmental Sanitation, Mr Raji Jimoh and Head of Information and Community Developments, Mr. Badejoko Kazeem which was made available to this medium, they stated that prior to the publication, a team of Environmental Health Officers visited the school and after due inspection carried out appropriate steps to check the dirty act perpetrated by residents.

According to the statement, “the environmental health officers conducted a thorough inspection of all houses surrounding the school premises to know those that had toilets facilities from those that do not.

“Abatement notices were subsequently issued  to all the houses without proper toilet facilities to do the needful within 21 days as prescribed by the environmental law in order for them to provide toilet and stop the indiscriminate defecation around the school, AUD Elementary School, Ifon.

“The list of those issued with the abatement notice papers include, Messrs Abdulganiyu Oladosu, Ibarahim Ademola, Kareem Ogunleke, Suleiman Abolade, Alidu and Iya Emmanuel Palmwine store who were all served on the 26th of February, 2018.

While those served on the 19th of March, 2018 were Messrs Ramoni Oyelami, Oladosu Ganiyu, Tiamiyu and Alhaji Okunoye Abdul-Lateef.

“We are only waiting for the ultimatum to lapse before embarking on prosecution of sanitary offenders.

“However, while waiting, the Executive Secretary of the Local Government on hearing this development is proposing to site a multi-compartment ventilated improved pit latrine to be located in the area”, the statement noted.

The council officers then noted that the management would continue to do everything possible to ensure that the people of the local government remain healthy.
