Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has said a candidate did not need to have all the credentials to become a great leader.

It was gathered that Peter Obi stated this on Monday morning while appearing on Arise TV in response to his reaction following a US District Court ruling instructing Chicago State University (CSU) to disclose the academic records of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu.

Obi maintained that the process by which people come into the office is far more fundamental than what they do thereafter.

“The process in which people come into office, or assume or achieve anything is far more fundamental than what they do thereafter. It is important that people come through the right door and not just jump through the widow and start saying things like ‘okay, lets move on,” he stressed.

He further explained that the Labour Party is challenging the process and that has to come to a logical end before any other thing.

He continued saying, “The issue of leaders doing things that are honest and truthful is the foundation of which you build society.

“If you look at what is going on in Nigeria today, there’s so many cases of certificate and age falsification even within the leaders. There is no way people can be doing these and be able to do the right things and this is not good morally and a sign should be given to the society.

“So many great people in the world who did not go to school. In America today, one of the greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln did not get a formal education because he came from an extremely poor family. But when you read his history, it shows that he came from a very poor home and didn’t get a high education.

“He didn’t have to say he did PHD, here or did this other certification there, which brings the credibity of our nation into question.”

He added that a candidate did not need to have all the credentials in the world to run for a position, but most importantly, must be honest with his past, which forms their greatness.
