Mourinho: Man United Must Improve On Current Form
  • PublishedOctober 6, 2018

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that the club’s current run of results is unacceptable.

United, nine points behind leaders Manchester City , have not won in four games and are without a win at home since their 2-1 victory over Leicester in the opening game of the season.

Against that backdrop, Mourinho’s position is under threat ahead of Saturday’s visit of Newcastle , with the United boss admitting their current form is not good enough.

“Yes, I accept,” Mourinho stated during his press conference on Friday when asked to comment on the Red Devils current form.

“I know we are in the beginning of October and we look to tables all around Europe and in many of the leagues the tables in September and October don’t reflect what is going to happen in a few months or even at the end of the season.

“But we are in a position where we can do much better and to do that we need points, points that we lost especially in the last two Premier League matches, with one point out of six.

“We know that to improve that position we need to win these three points, but we know that our opposition also need the points.

“They have a very, very very good coach, a team that is always very well organised, against especially the teams of the first part of the table, where their manager is very bright on his analysis of the opposition qualities and to try to stop them.

“The results they’ve had against the top teams didn’t get them points yet this season, but gave them very, very close results and very difficult matches for the opposition. So we expect a diff match.”

United went eight games without a win home and away under Louis van Gaal in November and December 2015.

And while Mourinho has not won at home for four games, the Reds went six games without a win at home between November 1989 and February 1990.

Mourinho accepted the home form must improve, but tried to put a positive spin on it by pointig to the fact United have lost just once in their past seven games.

“No home wins, yeah, that’s true,” Mourinho added.

“But only one defeat at home all season, only one defeat in the last seven matches, but not victories at home in the past three matches, three draws, not the feeling of defeat, but not the happiness of the victory, so it’s important for us to try and win this match on Saturday.
