Mismanagement Of Paris Club Funds, Newspaper Headline

Commercial banks in the country are lobbying the office of the Attorney general of the Federation, and have asked the Federal Government to rethink the act of seizing accounts that have no Bank Verification Number, the Punch Headline reports.

According to the headline story by The Nations Newspaper, three governors are believed to have mismanaged and diverted the London-Paris club refunds and with an investigation done, it shows that some suspicious transactions relating to the London-Paris club refund have been found.

The Vanguard Headline story says “Hands off and shuts up, Presidency tells Obla”. With the controversy surrounding the reinstatement of Abdulrasheed Maina, the presidency has directed the chairman of the special panel on the recovery of public properties to hands off the activities of the panel, stating that his recent acts ran contrary to the enabling act that established the panel.

However, Nigerian Tribune says the federal government has commended the probing of 800,000 registered companies in the country over non-payment of tax. The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has said that Nigeria is not an oil economy and 800,000 companies and government contractors have been avoiding paying their taxes.

Meanwhile, the Guardian Newspaper Headline says $3b has gone down the drain as oil in the north remains elusive. Stakeholders remain divided about the wisdom of the continuous search for the Hydrocarbon resources in the north but are encouraged by their findings in neighboring countries.

The fresh attacks by the Niger Delta Avengers might affect the production and export of crude oil that may result into forex crisis in the country. Stakeholder believes the latest posturing of the militant may threaten the fragile economic growth.
