Men of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, in Igbokoda, Ondo State, have arrested a 24-year-old man, Tosin Wanlele, for suspected cult-related activities in the area.

Navy Captain Wasuku Alushim, Executive Officer of the base, said this while parading the suspect in Igbokoda on Wednesday, on behalf of the Commanding Officer.

He stressed that the arrest was a part of the efforts to sustain the fight against cultism and other criminal activities in the military area of operation.

The officer said, “The suspect, together with others who are currently at large, had been harassing and intimidating passers-by with dangerous weapons. Consequently, based on credible intelligence, we responded and effected the arrest of the suspect, Tosin Wanlele.

“It will also interest you to know that the suspect was confirmed by the head of the vigilantes in Igbokoda to be a notorious and known cultist who had been terrorising the people of Igbokoda for a long time.

“Accordingly, he has since been handed over to the Department of State Security for further investigation. It is pertinent to state that the Base has continued to collaborate with other security agencies in Ondo State in stemming the tide of cultism within its area of operation.

In another development, Ondo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps announced it had arrested no fewer than 28 persons who allegedly involved in traffic offences in the last one month across the state.

According to the sector command, the arrest was made in Akure, the state capital and its  environs.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Ezekiel Son’Allah, disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking in Akure.

Son’Allah said, “Driving against traffic is a very serious offence. We have already arrested 28 offenders and I want to appeal to motorists to avoid violating traffic rules.

“It is something like this that easily leads to crashes and normally turns to fatal accidents. We must be self-disciplined to maintain your lane. People should avoid moving against the traffic because it is always dangerous.

“It’s more common with motorcycle riders. But, we are still appealing to every road user against using one way because of its nearness to their destinations. We want to be safe and to ensure our safety, everyone must avoid taking one way.

SonAllah also admonished motorists to always be professional and ensure they navigate to the appropriate part of the road towards maintaining the right way.

“This is an ember period, don’t drink while driving. Respect the FRSC officials and other security agencies on the highways because they are not there to victimise you, but to protect and save you from unforeseen circumstances,” the FRSC boss warned.
