The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Mr Folade John Olumuyiwa, has cautioned residents of the state against locating shops or houses under transmission lines.

He gave the warning while reacting to a fire disaster in Ilorin, the state capital, caused by a disconnected 33 KVA transmission line.

Spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in Ilorin, said the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 2 am, at Peak Hotel junction, beside the Kwara State Rural Electrification Board in the Ita-Alamu area of Ilorin, Ilorin South Local Government Area, in the state capital.

“Upon arrival, our firefighters effectively extinguished the fire that engulfed six metal kiosks and affected two shops, which was caused by a disconnected 33KV transmission line,” he added.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, subsequently issued a public warning against situating shops or houses beneath transmission lines due to the potential risks to life and property.
