Knocks, Praises Over TY Danjuma’s Call For Nigerians Self Defence To Herdsmen Attacks And Other Newspaper Headlines Today

Reactions have continued to trail the comments of a former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen.Theophilus Danjuma(retd.), that Nigerians should defend themselves against killers saying the Nigerian Armed Forces were not ready to defend them.

The PUNCH double strip banner headline reads Killings: Danjuma’s self-defence call, evidence of Buhari’s failure, says PDP with its National Publicity Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan saying that Danjuma’s statement had justified its stand that the Buhari Presidency and the APC must be held responsible for the agonising state of the nation.

It added that Nigerians were daily suffering because of the alleged failures of “a grossly incompetent leadership and a deceitful ruling party.”

The NATION, VANGUARD and TRIBUNE reports the same story with the caption Danjuma’s self-defence outburst sparks big row with the The Army and the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, rejecting the former Minister of Defence and elder statesman’s claim. While the Army described Gen. Danjuma’s statement as “most unfortunate,” the Minister said it was a call to anarchy.

The ongoing Row between the National Assembly and the Presidency interests the NEW TELEGRAPH and DAILY SUN today with the papers reporting that about 67 senators have signed to override Buhari.

There are also indications that the contentious election sequence has taken a dramatic turn, with allegations of plots to bribe the National Assembly members taking centre stage.

Sources revealed that pro-Executive Senators and members of the House of Representatives have been lined up for $50,000 and $30,000, respectively, while the anti-executive lawmakers, who have cases with anti-corruption agencies, will be threatened with prosecution, in days to come.
