June 12: A Democracy War Won By Heroes And Heroines – AKOL

Nigerians have been charged to restrain from acts of sabotage and acts that can jeopardize the aspirations and yearnings of those who fought for the entrenchment of Democracy in the nation.

The Special Adviser to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola on Public Health, Dr Olasiji Olamiju stated this in a statement to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day.

Titled “June 12; A Democracy War Won by Heroes and Heroines,” Olamiju saluted the efforts of the martyrs and the living legends of democracy stressing that their commitment to the peaceful coexistence of the country is laudable and will not be in vain.

He urged the citizenry to be firm and support government at all levels in their bid to actualise a better nation.

Olamiju said “The history of Nigeria will be incomplete without mentioning the day June 12,1993,when Nigeria was said to have conducted the most freest and fairest election. History will not forget the day when Lagos the commercial capital and every part of the country witnessed mass protest against the action of General Ibrahim Babangida who annulled the result of the election that saw MOSHOOD Kashimawo Olawale Abiola emerging as the President.”

“Heroes and heroine who believed in the principle of a better Nigeria fought the military administrations tooth and nail requesting the announcement of the election. Many died in the process many were imprisoned while many went on exile. We appreciate the efforts of all who took part in the struggle.”

“Twenty five years after the June 12,1993 election,president Muhammad Buhari heeded to the request of the people and orders that the result of the election be announced declaring Late MOSHOOD Kashimawo Olawale Abiola the winner and as well announce the day June12,as Nigeria democracy day.”

The Special Adviser stressed that “Fellow heroes and heroines in the struggle for a better Nigeria, as we celebrate democracy day, let us remember that the future of our dear nation lies in our hands, abstain totally from the act of sabotage, never talk ill of our dear country,remember the Late M.K.O and others who laid down their lives for a better Nigeria and act they would have been acting if alive.”

“As the deadly COVID-19 ravages the world with our dear nation not exempted, let us abide by medical advice to contain the disease and pray for our government so that the vision of distributing democracy dividends equally would realized.”
