Impersonation: Fake OAU Law Student Blames Poverty

By Sodiq Lawal

Omojola Adeola 22, who was arrested by the operatives of the Police in Ile Ife, for impersonating to be a 300-level law student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and for duping several admission seekers of large sums of money blamed the act on poverty.

The police arrested him on August 25, 2018, at Ojoyin street in the town when a complainant, Mrs Saliu Tope alerted the police that she has seen him.

The complainant said that she was one of the admission seekers that he has duped of #210,000.

According to her, “I am an admission seeker of OAU. Adeola duped me of #210, 000 and a male relative of mine of #180,000 . I had 177 in JAMB and he told me that he is a law student of the University and can secure admission for me.

“I did not see him again after he collected #210,000 from me and #180,000 from the guy. I was worried and nearly wanted to commit suicide but for the help of my friend who always come to visit me at home reduced my tension.

“After three months of suffering, I was going to a friend of mine house on Friday when I saw Adeola on a motorcycle. I shouted thief for a long time before boys around the area attacked him and handed him to the police.”

Meanwhile, an Osun State Magistrate Court II sitting in Ile Ife, on September 25 remanded Adeola to Kosere prison and adjourned the case to November 5, 2018.

However, in an interview with our correspondent with Adeola  on Thursday, said frustration, poverty, and the death of his parents led him to take fraudulent as a job.

“I am not a law student and am not a student of OAU. It was the death of my parents, poverty and frustration that led me to this,” he said.
