Ifon/Ilobu: Intervene And Stop Ongoing Communal Clash, Reps Tell IGP

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun has been called to stop the ongoing communal clashes between people of Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Area of Osun which has led to the death of innocent Citizens and the destruction of multi-million naira property.

The House of Representatives, made the call on Tuesday, during its session, admonishing the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to ensure the right and proper definition and appropriation of land to each community.

Osun Defender had reported that the people of Ifon and Orolu have been engaging in a running battle which has led to several deaths and scores injured with property destroyed over the ownership of a land.

The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion under Urgent Public Importance sponsored by Hon. Adewale Adebayo who called for the House intervention.

The lawmaker while stressing the urgent need to avert further clashes between the communities, underscored the need for the intervention of various security agencies toward quelling the crisis.

He bemoaned the effects of these clashes that have continued to claim lives and seen properties continuously destroyed.

Hon. Adebayo condemned in strong terms the continuous barbaric killing of individuals and destruction of properties.

He called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure more police presence in the region to maintain peace.

To this end, the House mandated the joint Committees on Police Affairs, Special Duties and National Emergency Management Agency to ensure compliance.
