Mrs Ismail was leaving alone with her three children.

It was gathered that the gunmen hit the woman with buttstock of the gun and tied her to a chair for questioning, while her children were also locked up in their room.

When contacted on phone, Mrs Ismail confirmed the attack, saying “It is true that I was attacked. It was a terrible experience. But I thank God for His mercy.”

Asked what was stolen from her, the woman said: “Those people did not steal anything. They were asking me for a tape – a video recording; they said my husband has a video recording and they needed to retrieve it. I don’t know anything about what they are saying.

“They asked for the whereabouts of my husband and I told them he is in Abuja. They said I was lying because they have been tracking him for over a year. They said if he were to be in Nigeria, they would have gotten to him.

“I think the gunmen were after my husband. This is the second term I will be attacked by gunmen who are obviously looking for my husband. The first one happened in Lagos at our house at Akota, Lagos, on August 15, 2022. I thank God and I appreciate the effort of security agents. But I am afraid the more. My life is under threats, likewise that of my husband. We are not safe.”

Mrs Ismail said she has reported the case to the police through her lawyer.

When contacted, the Spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the attack on Mrs Ismail.

Ajayi said investigations have begun on the matter, following the receipt of a petition filed by the victim’s lawyer.
