A civil society group in Osun State, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has expressed concerns over the quality of materials being used for construction of drainages and roads in Osogbo and other parts of the state.

According to the group, there is the need to monitor the contractors and others who are executing construction projects in the state to avoid delivery of shoddy job.

Chairman of the CDHR in Osun, Comrade Emmanuel Olowu, in a statement on Thursday commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for the ongoing road constructions in some parts of the state, saying good road network is part of development.

However, Olowu alerted Adeleke on the quality of work being done at various construction sites, especially on the DSS Junction-Ogo-Oluwa drainage construction.

Olowu lamented that the DSS junction-Ogo-Oluwa drainage construction was taken ages and bringing hardship to the road users.

He called on Governor Adeleke to direct a speedy completion of the project with strict compliance to usage of quality materials.

“We have discovered that there is the need for the state government and other stakeholders to monitor the quality of work being done at various construction sites in the state.

“There are reports of that some materials being used as substandard and this is a disservice to the state. Some of these constructions are also taken too long.

“Adequate attention must be paid to construction of drainage on the DSS junction-Ogo-Oluwa road, it is taken too long. The government needs to understand the sensitivity of that area and see to timely completion of the project”, Olowu stated.
