Gov’ Wike Donates N200 Million To Ondo Group

Rivers State Governor who is also the arrow head of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP G-5, a platform of the five aggrieved Governors of the party, Nyesom Wike has donated N200million to the Foundation for Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO), to assist the association in empowering women.

Speaking at the program through his Head of Service, Mr. Rufus Godwins, announced the donation at the 4th FOWOSO Summit held in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He said “the money is to encourage gender advocates to mobilise the womenfolk across Nigeria to request the National Assembly to revisit the four gender equality bills rejected during the recent alteration process of the Nigerian constitution.”

While urging women to mobilise their votes for credible female candidates in the coming 2023 general election, Wike of Rivers stressed that drastic action must be taken to change the current scenario.

Wike recalled that he has in the past, opposed and spoke against the rejection of some women empowering bills by the National Assembly.

“I’m ready and willing to support our women in advancing their fundamental rights of a robust and equitable political representation of all levels of governance”, he said further.

Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, Ondo state first lady, while thanking the Governor said there was need to do more in collective strife to elevate the status of women across the states and in the country at large.
