Osun Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji has described the State Integrated Financial Management Information System(SIFMIS), a customized financial software being built by the state as a major boost in the state’s quest for a transparent and accountable style of governance.

Oyebamiji spoke on Thursday during a meeting with the SIFMIS Implementation and Coordination Team(SCIT) held at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance, government secretariat.

The Commissioner while enumerating on some advantages of the customized system said it will among others ensure transparency and accountability across all ministries, departments and agencies of government as the system will connect all of them when launched.

He called on all stakeholders to ensure that they give their maximum support to the project coordinators as their input and cooperation towards the building of the software will be needed to ensure its success.

The member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers explained that the administration of Mr Adegboyega Oyetola is determined to lay a solid foundation for transparency and accountability, hence the development of the SIFMIS software through the collaboration of the European Union and the World Bank under the SLOGOR project.

He said, “The importance of the SIFMIS project can not be overemphasized, it means we will be doing things much better and according to international best practices in the finance sector.

“This is about laying a solid foundation for accountability and how things should be done. It is about building our institutions in a manner that people coming after us won’t be able to deviate from it. It is also about ensuring that people do the right thing on their various desks.

“We need to re-engineer our state and especially our financial systems to meet best standards of the world, that is why we are appealing that no MDA should be left behind in the course of developing the software”. Oyebamiji stressed.

The project, when completed within the next few months, will give the government and the people of Osun a globally acceptable platform for open governance and further boost the accountable style of governance which the Adegboyega Oyetola administration has always strived to achieve.
