THE Federal Government of Nigeria has concluded plan to develop an Automotive Supplier Industrial Park (ASIP) in Osogbo, capital of the State of Osun.

This is part of the FG’s efforts to unlock the opportunities in the auto sector as well as the manufacturing industry in Nigeria.

Two other benefiting states of the project are Kaduna and Anambra.

Briefing the assessment team on the progress report of the project, the Managing Director/ Chief Executive of Hydraulic Equipment Development Institute ( HEDI), Kano, Prof. Abdulmalik Onuwe, said the project would create employment and skilled labour in the region and sub-Saharan Africa.

According to Onuwe, the project will also save the country’s foreign exchange spent on importing vehicles and spare parts.

He said: “The ASIP initiative was in line with the concept of the Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment, which proposed its establishment in three locations of the country for technology evolution in the automotive sector.

“The three zones Federal Government had planned to develop the industrial parks are Nnewi in Anambra State, Osogbo in Osun State and Igabi in Kaduna State.”
