Nigeria’s Milicent Agboegbulem produced a classy performace as she saw off Tonga’s Salote Huni in a round of 16 bout in the women’s middleweight boxing category (75kg) at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on Friday.
It was an inspiring win for both the Nigerian men and women boxing teams following the ousters of Adeola Soyoye (men’s lightweight) and Osita Umeh (women’s welterweight) on Thursday.
Fighting in the red corner, Agboegbulem got an impressive 5-0 decision after dominating all three rounds.
She took round one with a score of 10-8, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9.
The second round saw Agboegbulem dominate proceedings 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 10-8, 10-9.
And in the final round, she got a score of 10-8, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9, 10-9.
She will now meet Elizabeth Andiego of Kenya in the quarter-finals on Monday, April 9.
