Chelsea Play Europa League Football Next Season If…

After loosing 2-1 to Aston Villa on the final EPL match day and narrowly qualifying for the UEFA Champions league next season, Chelsea are now faced with the prospect of dropping to the Europa League.

The possibility of dropping became a reality following their latest charge from the FA for failing to control their players with points deduction, one of the penalities, if found guilty of the charge.

The FA threw the book at the Blues this week after their players and staff were involved in a 20-man brawl with Leicester City during the stoppage time of their crucial 2-1 victory last week.

In the last five years, Chelsea have been charged twice more for failing to control their players, but escaped with warnings about future conduct.

This is the seventh time in as many years that the Blues have been in the FA dock.

Players and staff clashed on the touchline at Stamford Bridge following a poor challenge by Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira on Ben Chilwell.

According to the Mirror, the Blues were warned in July 2016 that they faced a points deduction after appealing against a £375,000 fine following a similar brawl in a match with Tottenham two months earlier.

However the good news for Chelsea is that the Foxes were also charged for their part in Tuesday night’s meeting and could face points deductions if found guilty too.

Both Chelsea and Leicester City have until Tuesday to respond to the charge.

Any points deduction could drastically alter the EPL table with Chelsea finishing 4th with 67 points, Leicester with 66 while West Ham finished on 65 points.
