President Muhammadu Buhari was unable to attend the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Instead, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo presided over the meeting which started at about 11am, making it the third time Osinbajo will be presiding over the meeting in recent time.
There have been reports and concerned calls about the state of health of the president who is unable to attend to some of his customary duties, including presiding over the FEC meeting.
President Buhari has been a rare sight in public functions recently, and this has been attributed to his failing health. However, his wife, Mrs Aisha Buhari took to Twitter to dispel ill-health rumours, explaining that “The President is not as ill as he is perceived to be.” Madam Buhari also appreciated Nigerians for their support and prayers over the president’s health which has been a hot button topic since February 2017.
Meanwhile, there have been calls from civil society leaders for the President to take a medical leave and get adequate treatment.
