It has been heard that goalkeeper Austin Marchesin was not invited for Argentina’s pre-World Cup friendly matches against Italy and Spain by manager Jorge Sampaoli because he conceded four goals their game against the Super Eagles in November.

Goals from Ever Banega and Manusi Lanzini gave Argentina, who play Spain on Tuesday, a 2 goals win Italy at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The CF America keeper believes no other keeper would have stopped the goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Brian Idowu, even though he was blamed for the last two goals

‘’I am not stupid and I know that Nigeria’s match was not a normal game, but I know how the goals were, I do not think any other goalkeeper could stop those balls,” he said.

Marchesin feels he is fit and can play for the national team, saying his flaws during the Nigeria game shouldn’t be used to judge him.

“It’s my dream to play at the World Cup and I still do not consider myself off the list. I play every weekend; I think I’m doing things well to continue in the national team. I do not think that this match should be the only parameter to decide whether or not you can be in the Albiceleste,” Marchesín told Closs Continental.

Coach Sampaoli called up three goalkeepers Sergio Romero (Manchester United), Wilfredo Caballero (Chelsea) and Nahuel Guzmán (Tigres UANL) for both friendlies.
