A 28-year-old man, Sikuru Morufu was on Thursday arraigned for allegedly stealing N3,000 from a commercial sex worker.

Morufu was arraigned before a Mapo Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The prosecution counsel, Inspector Salewa Ahmed had earlier informed the court that Morufu committed the crime on January 19, at the Idi-aro area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to Ahmed, the defendant was apprehended after the complainant, Ms Eniola Opeyemi raised an alarm at the Idi-Aro police station that one of her customers had cheated on her.

The prosecution said Opeyemi told the police that she received the agreed fee after offering Morufu her services on January 19.

He added that the defendant, however, went back to the room in the absence of the complainant and stole the money and her N46,000 worth of Infinix smartphone.

Ahmed said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 Vol. ii Law of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.

The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Latunji had admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum after Morufu had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge offence.

Latunji added that the two sureties must be blood relations to Morufu.

The Chief Magistrate adjourned the suit until February 26 for trial.
