UNIOSUN Closes Campuses Indefinitely

The management of Osun State  University, UNIOSUN, has announced the immediate closure of all its six campuses across the State.
 
 
The non-teaching staff of the institution had staged a protest against the management over purported suspension of some union leaders.
 
The workers under the aegis of Joint Action Committee of NAAT, NASU and SSANU of the institution had accused the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Labo Popoola of conniving with the chairman of of the University Governing Council to harass, intimidate and victimise workers for exposing their alleged financial misappropriation in the school.
 
 
They also accused the management of removing workers from the school’s Staff Disciplinary Committee.
 
 
In a release by the Registrar and Secretary to Council on behalf of the management, Gafar Adebayo Shittu,  said the closure was necessitated by the frequent protests of the workers.
 
 
The release reads, “the Governing Council of Osun State University has approved the closure of the University with immediate effect.
 
“This is sequel to the notorious activities of some non-teaching staff members under the guise of unionism. These activities now pose danger to lives and properties within and around the university campuses.
 
“Management wishes to sincerely apologize to parents, guardians and students for any inconveniences that this closure may cause. Efforts are geared towards addressing the prevalent lawlessness, finally.
 
“We urge our law abiding staff and students to remain calm and stay away from the campuses in the mean time.”
