The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State of Osun, Prince Gboyega Famodun has said that the party’s leaders and elders would decide if he would return as the head of the party in the state.

Famodun explained that the decision to retain him as the party chairman or otherwise rests solely on the verdict of the party leaders and elders.

He was reacting to questions during an interview on a programme aired live on a private radio station in Osogbo on Monday.

The chairman said: “Our party has internal mechanisms in making decisions such as that of the Chairman and most especially, who gets what. I am a beneficiary of such arrangement. If you could remember, I was elected Chairman unopposed.

“We are a party of principles which respects its leaders and elders. No one can lay claim to an office. If it is the decision of the party elders that I continue or vice versa as Chairman, I have no option. We reverence our elders so much.

“If anything will happen in our party today, our leaders such as Chief Adebisi Akande, Engr Sola Akinwumi, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, alongside other revered leaders and elders would sit and make the decision. These elders decide what happens in the interest of our party with due respect to the progressive ideology.”

The APC Chairman stressed that his continuous stay in office after the expiration of his term of office was not illegal as all processes attached to his stay followed due process.

“Like I have always said, our party is that of procedure and protocols. The National Working Committee had in 2018 extended the tenure of the State Working Committee in Osun by 1 year due to the Governorship and National Assembly elections.”

“Many are saying we are due for a congress, even, if we are due, the National Secretariat has to write to us to prepare for a congress. As at the time I’m talking to you now, there is no official directive from the headquarters to do so. If any comes, trust me, our officials will swing into action and congresses will hold. We are law-abiding and we won’t tamper with the law”, he added.

Famodun also expressed the readiness of the party structure in the state to support the National Caretaker Committee in its mandate to reposition the party for successes in the forthcoming elections in Edo and Ondo states.
