The state commissioner of works and transport, Remi Omowaye made the call while on an inspection tour of affected areas in Osogbo on Monday.

According to Omowaye, the amount needed to tackle the flooding is beyond the state government to handle. He said, “We call on the Federal Government through the ecological fund support to come to our aid immediately, this is not a project the state government can say it will do immediately.”

However, Osun Defender reporter spoke with some of those affected by the floods, they berated the state government for failing to do the needful at the right time. Mrs. Alalade Bose, a shop owner said she has suffered serious financial setbacks as a result of the floods and appealed to the state government to come to her aid.

On his part, Kazeem Adejumo a residence of Lemese area described the explanation of the state as a “lame excuse”. He wondered why the state was not proactive despite incessant warnings from weather agencies about the flooding.
