Following the backlash that H&M has received from people worldwide over its racist commercial picturing a black boy dressed in a hoodie which read “King of the Jungle”, Nigerian actor Uti has refused to blame the clothing company but the parents of the child for letting their child feature in a racist commercial.

He says only Money loving parents would have allowed their child be used for such an ad. Uti wrote

#handm Racial slip up…..
Okay I love how black people speak up.
I love our Love for eachother (maybe ).
I love how Black people all over the world have reacted to this Racially Insensitive Campaign/ad
.
BUT THIS IS WHAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND!!!!
WHILE ATTACKING AND DEMONSTRATING AGAINST H&M…..WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS PARENTS/GUARDIANS??!!! EXCEPT YOU TELL ME THEY DIDN’T GIVE THEIR APPROVAL…COS LAST TIME I CHECKED MINORS DON’T GIVE CONSENT WITH ISSUES LIKE THIS! ….. it doesn’t make sense to me that yall are attacking h&m and not Asking what Kind of parents allowed This?? I’ll tell you what type….MONEY LOVING PARENTS…So please everyone calm down a notch unless you are bringing the PARENTS into this OR YOU URSELF WILL TURN DOWN A HEAVY SUM IF YOU WERE IN THEIR SHOES #MyOpinion
.
It’s RIDICULOUS!!! …IMAGINE someone selling their family house to the govt and then their community starts to chastise the govt for buying the house and turning it into Whatever they chose to!(terrible analogy ,I know) …COME ON GUYS ENUFF! …H&M HAS APOLOGISED !!! WHAT ABOUT THE BOYS PARENTS ???!! HAVE THEY APOLOGISED ???…PLEASE UPDATE ME AND LET’S DISCUSS ????????????”

Meanwhile the company has since released an official statement, apologizing to the general public and its customers. Their statement wrote;

We understand that many people are upset about the image of the children’s hoodie. We, who work at H&M can only agree.

We’re deeply sorry that the picture was taken, and we also reject the actual print. Therefore we’ve not only removed the image from out channels, but also the garment from our product offering.

It’s obvious that our routines haven’t been followed properly. This is without any doubt. We’ll thoroughly investigate why this happened to prevent this type of mistake from happening again.
