THE Osun Civil Societies Coalition has demanded stiffer penalties for security operatives found wanting of abuse of human rights and misconducts in their line of duty.

According to the OCSC, the security agents across the country, especially in the State of Osun, are yet to desist from violating the fundamental human rights of the citizens, maintaining that police brutality and harassment of the youths are on the rise again in Osun.

Chairman of the OCSC, Alhaji Waheed Lawal, in a press statement issued to commemorate the 2021 World Human Rights Day, said some security agents in Osun have been extorting and harassing residents of the state on the guise of tracking suspected internet fraudsters.

Lawal, in the release made available to OSUN DEFENDER yesterday, condemned the killing of a 33-year-old borehole drilling operator, Kabiru Babai, by a trigger-happy policeman in Osogbo last week.

According to Lawal, the killing of the innocent man, who was neither a suspect, not an accused person, by the policeman confirmed the fact that the Nigerian police officers are yet to desist from gross violation of human rights.

The OCSC Chairman condemned what he described as desecration of the judiciary by the security agents, saying attack on any judge is an insult on the country’s democracy and rule of law.
