Why I Lost Kogi Governorship Election – Dino Melaye

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Dino Melaye, has explained why he lost in the just concluded election.

Melaye, who refused to state if he went out to vote on election day, said that no laws made voting mandatory.

“The issue of voting or not voting has no legal status; people win elections from prison, so if we want to go into issues about this election, the processes the conclusion, instead of buying time discussing issues that has no relevance to the election, whether i voted or not is immaterial because there is no legal status for the weather you voted or not I say people who are even in prison, win elections from prison,” Melaye said.

Melaye, who lost at the governorship poll, was reported to have stayed away from the voting process in protest of what he termed a flawed election process.

However, Melaye, who addressed the press at his home, cried foul, accusing the Yahaya Bello-led All Progressives Congress of conspiring with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to rig the election in favour of Usman Ododo.

Despite cancelling results from 59 polling units, the election umpire went ahead to declare Ododo the winner of the election.

Ododo polled a total of 446,237 votes to defeat the Social Democratic Party, which polled a total of 259,052 votes, and Melaye, who came a distance third with 46,362.
