UNIOSUN Threatens Legal Action Over Increment of School Fees

The management of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has threatened legal action over the recent increment of its school fees reported by Osun Defender Sunday morning.

This medium had on Sunday reported how the management of the school published an increment in its school fees for the upcoming academic session, 2023/2024 on the school’s website.

Osun Defender had also earlier reported that the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Clement Adebooye had stated that the institution will not increase its tuition fees but other fees, due to the economic situation of the country.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, also corroborated the adjustment information published on the school’s website during a conversation with our reporter.

However, in a terse statement released Sunday afternoon titled, “Clarification on Alleged Tuition Fee Increment at Osun State University”, Mr. Adesoji stated that the recent increment in fees pertains solely to ancillary charges, not tuition fees.

“The University reaffirms the earlier statement made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, confirming that there would be no increment in tuition fees due to prevailing economic challenges.

“The reported increment purportedly discovered on the institution’s website does not relate to tuition and is described accordingly. Osun Defender’s interpretation of the breakdown of the University fees is inaccurate and misleading. We urge the public to disregard such misinformation and seek accurate details directly from official University channels,” the statement noted.

The statement further reads that the University’s legal team has been briefed regarding the alleged defamatory nature of Osun Defender’s publication, noting that failure to comply with their take-down request will result in necessary legal actions to protect the University’s integrity and uphold the truth.
