Two Remanded In Prison Over Breach Of Public Peace

Two men, Suraju Adeniyi, 39, and Lateef Olaitan, 25, have been remanded at Ilesa Prison Custody by an Osogbo Magistrate court over alleged breach of public peace.

The charge sheet read in the court disclosed that the accused persons committed the offence at Asoje Area in Osogbo on October 5 2017.

It also stated that the accused persons did conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by gathering themselves at an India Hemp joint an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249(D) of the state criminal law.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Defence counsel, Okobe Najite pleaded the court to admit the suspects to bail in the most liberal terms, adding that the offence was bailable.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Ajayi Sunday opposed the application on the ground that the suspects belong to a gang and have also beaten some police officers who went to effect their arrest.

He also disclosed that the suspects have threatened to harm officers if they are seen around the vicinity.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs O. Oloyade denied the application and ordered that the suspects be remanded in Ilesa Prison custody pending a formal bail application.

She then adjourned the matter till November 9, 2017.
