President Donald Trump of the United States of America phoned his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, during which the US offered to donate ventilators to assist Nigeria’s national response to the war against the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic in the country.
The conversation between President Buhari and his American counterpart was disclosed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, while speaking during Tuesday’s daily media briefing by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja.
According to the Minister, the conversation was centered around Nigeria’s response to COVID-19 and President Buhari was said to have updated President Trump on progress so far made by the country.
“President Muhammadu Buhari today had a phone conversation with President Donald Trump, at the request of the American President.
“The conversation centred on Nigeria’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“President Buhari used the opportunity to brief the American President on the steps that Nigeria is taking to contain the spread of the disease.
“For his part, President Trump assured that the United States stand in solidarity with Nigeria in this difficult time and promised to send ventilators to support the country in its fight against the pandemic.
“President Trump also extends his best regards to the people of Nigeria,” he said.
