Taraba’ll Be Attacked In 10 Days, Gov Cries Out And Other Newspaper Headlines Today 2nd February, 2018

Governor Darius Ishaka of Taraba State and lawmakers from the state in the House of Representatives yesterday raised alarm over planned attack on the state in the next 10 days. According to the VANGUARD, the lawmakers have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari to take action to stem the attack. While speaking to members of the National Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party who paid him a sympathy visit on the death of a member of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Hosea Ibi, he revealed that the state had gotten a notice by unknown gunmen informing them that they will attack in the next 10 days.

Still on the cries of a coming attack, There Is A Plan To Attack Taraba In 10 Days-Gov heads THE PUNCH. The Governor of Taraba State, Mr Darius Ishaku, has said there is a plan to attack the state in the next 10 days. Ishaku while assuring the public that appropriate authorities had been notified spoke in Jalingo on Thursday when he received members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party who paid him a sympathy visit on the death of a member of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Hosea Ibi.

NIGERIAN TRIBUNE moves away from the impending attack in Taraba to the killings by herdsmen. Its headline reads; Some People Are Making Money From Killings By Herdsmen-Zamfara Gov. The Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yeri, has said that the perennial deadly clashes between herdsmen and farmers have not stopped because some people were benefitting from it financially.  This came as the National Economic Council (NEC) under vice president Yemi Osinbajo had set up a committee headed by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State to interface with Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) towards finding an end to the crisis.

Still on herdsmen killings, IGP Declares War On Militias, Vigilantes heads DAILY SUN today. The inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, yesterday ordered state commissioners of police to as a matter of urgency disarm all militias, vigilantes and other security outfits set up by the governors to protect citizens. The IGP equally reiterated his earlier position that the renewed killings in Benue State were communal clashes. He was speaking in Abuja when he met with officers with the rank of commissioner of police and above.

THE GUARDIAN takes us away from herdsmen and attacks to the economic sector saying; Govt May Loose N500 Billion Yearly To New Cargo Policy. According to the news, the federal government’s new policy on cargo palletisation could rob the economy of over N500 billion yearly and send importers to the ports of neighboring countries. Palletisation is a method of storing and transporting goods stacked on a pallet and shipped as a unit load. It permits standardized ways of loading with equipment like forklift trucks.

Buhari To Youth: Watch Character Of Aspirants heads THE NATION today. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday urged the youth to be concerned about the character of those who aspire to lead Nigeria. He said they should offer themselves for service.

“Being apolitical, ultimately, does you no good as political leaders make decisions that affect you in many ways. As such, you should be concerned about the character of those who aspire to lead you, just as I urge you to offer yourselves to serve where possible”
