Subsidy: Osun Students’ Association Rejects Palliative, Says Two Bags Of Rice Too Small

By Sodiq Lawal

Thousands of Osun students under the umbrella of Ila Orangun National Students’ Association (INSA) has rejected the two bags of rice as palliative to cushion the effect of petrol subsidy.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by the INSA National President, Adedeji Segun and the Secretary General, Ajide Oluwafemi disclosed that the association received two bags of rice out of the 208 bags of rice that were sent to Ila Local Government.

According to the statement, “The National president of Ila-Orangun National Students Association had a meeting with the Ila local government chairmen and the outcome of the meeting includes:

“208 bags of rice were sent to Ila local government. And they are supposed to share them to different community societies and associations, the likes of artisans, Iyalode, Iyaloja, CAN, MSSN, Students etc .

“However, only two (2)bags of rice were given to the millions of students populace of the town, INSA National at large.

“This is not so substantial for the students contributions, struggles and enormous needs caused by the Subsidy removal, which bears the Palliative distribution.

“Therefore, we have decided unanimously to reject the two (2) bags of Rice, because we believe this can not reach even a unit quarter of the students populace. This is also a proactive means of preventing issues that uncirculated distribution may cause.”
