A strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook the South American nation of Chile on Tuesday but there was no tsunami alert and no reports of injuries, preliminary reports from officials said.
The United States Geological Survey also reported the quake as measuring 6.2.
Chile’s National Seismological Center said the quake struck at 7:19 am (1019 GMT), 35 kilometers (21 miles) north of Punitaqui at a depth of 75.8 kilometers.
