Special Report: How Traders, Police Wives Increase Police Income In Ile Ife

By Sodiq Lawal

Apart from being in charge with the responsibility of countering armed robbery and other heinous crimes in the society, the operatives of the police in Ile Ife, State of Osun, have taken advantage of some spaces of land at the front of the station to build shops so as to generate more revenue.

The police station in Ile Ife located at Moore road which is a place that is used to be crack detectives of the Nigeria Police to conduct their affairs with finesse and professional dexterity, unlocking the key to several knotty criminal cases with scientific precision, is also been used for commercial activities.

Findings revealed that the Police, built the shops, not only to generate more income from traders,  but also to assist police officer’s wives who are in dire need of shops to sell petty goods.

Several businesswomen and police officers wives who are fortunate of selling goods at the front of the station opined that the reason why they took to selling goods at the shops was to be free from hoodlums attack.

Given the antecedents of Offa Robbery case,  some analysts argued that having a shop in front of the police station does not guarantee being free from hoodlums attack, while others argued that it is the most safe place for traders to sell their goods.
