Sokoto Spends N9.2bn on Agriculture in Two Years

The Sokoto State Government has committed N9.2 billion towards improving the agricultural sector in the states.
Speaking at a press briefing in Sokoto Monday, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, said the huge funds were spent in the provision of farm inputs to farmers across the 23 local government areas of the state.
According to him, these include provision of certified rice and wheat seeds, protective nets, 15,000 litres of pesticides, 20,000 water pumps and over 15,000 tube wells.
Others were the provision of 1,100 trucks of fertiliser, Quelea birds aerial control as well as distribution of five Toyota Hilux vans and 37 motorcycles for value chain projects supervision, among others.
He said the huge intervention made in the agricultural sector has gone a long way in boosting farming and attracted the needed investment for its growth and development.
