Senate Wants Service Chiefs Sacked As Herdsmen Kill 78 And Other Interesting Newspaper Headlines Today

Angered by seeing the seemingly intractable killings across the country, senators yesterday charged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately dismiss the heads of security as well as service chiefs.  According to THE GUARDIAN, THE NATION, NIGERIAN TRIBUNE, NEW TELEGRAM, DAILY INDEPENDENT and DAILY SUN, the lawmakers called on the president to accept an offer of security assistance made to him by the British Prime Minister, Theresa May on Monday.  Debating a motion under matters of urgent public importance, sponsored by Senator Suleiman Adokwe(PDP, Nasarawa State) on the renewed killings by herdsmen and criminal militia groups, the lawmakers noted that government’s inability to tackle unending killings in the country was endangering the nation’s democracy.

THE PUNCH moves from a different angle but still on the security crises by revealing Deputy President of the Senate Ike Ekweremadu saying the Senate might have to shut down the N’Assembly to help Buhari end killings while also noting that if the insecurity in the country persisted all efforts by the Federal Government to direct investments into the country would fail. Ekweremadu said this while he presided over the plenary on Tuesday, spoke while ruling on a motion moved by Senator Suleiman Adokwe.

Moving away from the security crises in the country Former military President  Ibrahim Babangida has disclosed why he wouldn’t write his autobiography. While speaking in an interview on Channels Television programme ‘Roadmap 2019’, THE VANGURAD reports that the former leader doubts that Nigerians will find his book interesting and inspiring because he felt Nigerian have a wrong impression of some of his actions in office between 1985 and 1993 when he served as Military President, citing the annulled June 12, 1993 elections.
